About the RPAP Awards

RPAP | Health Workforce for Alberta is an independent, not-for-profit organization funded by Alberta Health.

RPAP provides a provincially-focussed comprehensive, integrated and sustained program for the education, recruitment and retention of physicians  for rural practice.

To solicit nominations for its awards, RPAP runs a public nomination process encouraging rural Alberta residents to nominate an outstanding family physician or community for one of two awards: the RPAP Rural Physician Award of Distinction, and the Alberta Rural Community Attraction and Retention Award.

To be eligible for nomination for the Award of Distinction, a physician must live and have worked in rural Alberta for at least twelve years.  In addition, they must have demonstrated superior commitment and contributions to their community through medical practice, teaching other health professionals, conducting research, and volunteering in their community.

The public nominations received for this year’s award were reviewed by the RPAP Board of Directors, which includes representatives of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Alberta Medical Association and its Section of Rural Medicine, as well as Alberta Health Services.

Following our review of the Award criteria and nominations received, Dr. Liesl Lewke-Bogle was selected as the 2015 Recipient of the Rural Physician Award of Distinction in recognition of her outstanding commitment to rural medicine and her community.

By recognizing the efforts of Alberta’s rural doctors and communities, we hope all rural physicians will feel valued and more willing to continue practising in rural Alberta.
