Dr. James Richards of Bassano is grateful for the support he and his community receive from resident physicians.

According to Dr. Richards, physicians-in-training, many of whom are from the RPAP-sponsored Alberta Rural Family Medicine Network, bring enthusiasm and new perspectives, which is good for both patients, and physicians.

“They bring different perspectives than what I would bring, so I believe it adds to the variety of what patients can get when they come to see a healthcare provider or physician."

Rural rotations also provide residents with the opportunity to see the community, leading to number returning to the community to work as locums.

“From a recruitment perspective it’s helpful that they can come here and they see what’s here to offer,” adds Dr. Richards.
