Students training in several healthcare disciplines will travel to Olds to experience the advantages of living and working in a rural Alberta community. On 15-16 October 2016, over 50 students from the University of Alberta and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) will participate in an RPAP Medical Skills event in Olds. The Olds Medical Skills Weekend event is sponsored by the Alberta Rural Physician Action Plan (RPAP), the Olds Institute for Community & Regional Development, and Olds Hospital and Care Centre.

Local healthcare professionals will instruct students to perform a variety of medical skills including suturing, spinal immobilization, and airway management.  RPAP Medical Skills events also provide rural Alberta communities with the opportunity to showcase local amenities to future healthcare professionals. Participants will receive tours of medical facilities and attractions within the town of Olds, including the Community Learning Campus, and Olds College Campus. On Saturday evening, students will be treated to a community dinner and mixer event at the Grouchy Daddy’s Events Centre in Olds.
